Mesric Sanctuary--The Mesric Sanctuary political landscape experienced a major upheval this past week as Chataka Windae, founding Mayor of the city, returned to active politics and challenged his sister Chatlana for the office of city mayor.

Chatlana had been mayor of Mesric Sanctuary for more than a year following the sudden decsion of her brother to leave office to pursue other interests. Chatlana remains the president of Windae Enterprises and has indicated that she intends to devote more time to those duties.

Chataka has spent much of the past year studying an ancient religion and developing his combat skills. He returned to power with a very low key campaign.

Neither Chatlana nor Chataka would agree to be interviewed for this article but Mayor Windae's office issued the following statement:

"Mayor Chataka Windae has returned after a year sabatical more focused than ever on making Mesric Sanctuary the best it can be. Times have not always been good for the city but the Mayor feels that the best days could well still be in our future."

News: Imperial Prisoner Escapes Rescue Party

Dathomir- Members of an elite cell of Alliance resistance fighters raided the Imperial Prison on Dathomir last week. Following a massive firefight with Imperial forces guarding the fortress and the destruction of 2 AT-ST's the squad entered the compound and spread out to search for Alliance personnel being held at the facility.

Several prisoners were freed from the detention areas. Among the prisoners was a half starved former Imperial naval crewman. The prisoner reported having been a gunnery crewman serving aboard the Star Destroyer Immortal.

The former Imperial reported that he and his brother had defied all odds to become rare exceptions to the naval policy of only employing humans. The brothers, twi'leks hailing Bestine (Imperial Capital of Tatooine), had joined the naval training academy together hoping to escape the rampant anti-alien sentiment on their home world. While they succeeded in being accepted and completing their training, the brothers did not find the haven from prejudice they had sought. They were constantly subjected to ridicule and punitively harsh duty stations.

The brothers were separated shortly after their training and never saw each other again. In addition they were prevented from contacting their family or friends and had been held virtually incommunicado for the last 10 years. The crewman's only news of his brother in the last 10 years was a vague rumor that he had been assigned to a maintenance post aboard a space station several months ago.

Following more than 10 years out of contact with his family the young crewman was desperate to let his loved ones know he was still alive, and to spread word of some of the atrocities he had personally witnessed aboard the Star Destroyer Immortal. During a routine patrol of the Kessel system he attempted to leave the ship by stowing away on a small frigate that had been captured for inspection. He was discovered by naval guards and placed under arrest. After several months of interrogation, during which he was accused of having connections with the resistance, he was sentenced to execution for desertion at the Imperial Prison on Dathomir. That sentence was due to be carried out within the month.

The alliance cell attempted to bring the prisoner back to the Corellian base for additional debriefing but he managed to steal a swoop bike and escape from their encampment near the prison. A search located the swoop near the northern starport. The assumption is that he managed to stow away or steal a transport to get off the planet.

The crewman, Chatonga Windae, is reported to have living relatives in the Bestine/Anchorhead region of Tatooine. All Alliance personnel are ordered to make contact with any member of the Windae family sympathetic with the cause. If they receive contact with crewman Windae they are instructed to put him in contact with the Alliance command for further debriefing and investigation.

West Anchorhead Community (WAH) is thriving. Pictured above are most of the members who were attending a meeting in the recently remodeled guild hall. All renovations were handled by Taeleik Varuna and Nosmina Osoga. WAH was fortunate to have these renovations finished before their big meeting. Red tape and other permits were held up for days by the zoning commission which caused both Ms. Osoga and Mr. Varuna to spend hours getting the hall ready for the meeting the night before.

A small group of WAH Members plus an allied friend attempted a mission on the famed Corvette in the early evening last night. Unfortunately, the small band of Rebels could not over take the Super Battle Droids guarding the fuel intakes. Unable to pass them meant that there was no way that they could destroy the ship. A disappointed crew decided that they would not give up and will try again in the future.
